Special Devzira Rice From Kyrgyzstan
Rice is one of the most popular products worldwide. In some countries, it is even a major export commodity. This is what the countries of Central Asia, and more specifically the Fergana Valley, are famous for. In this region, one can find not only the usual rice crops, but also very unique ones that many of us have probably never even heard of. One of those crops is Devzira rice.
This is a local variety of brown rice that is grown in Kyrgyzstan. This type of rice has been purposefully bred to give a special flavour and aroma to the local cuisine. Devzira rice is mentioned in written sources as far back as the 10th and 11th centuries, and it is said that it was this rice that was served as a ploughman’s plough at the most ceremonial festivals and banquets of the privileged classes.
So why is Devzira rice so special and appreciated?
Devzira’s Rice Quality Secret
We invite you to discover the secret of the quality of Devzira’s rice, and to evaluate it for yourself
The grains of this rice are large, with a pinkish husk. Because of its distinctive appearance in the region where it is grown, Devzira rice is known as the pink pearl of the East. It is this husk that gives it its special flavour and aroma. It should be mentioned that the large grains of this type of rice do not result in a yield as high as others. The grains also have a distinctive pinkish scar, which, incidentally, does not disappear even after cooking, which is another characteristic of Devzira rice.
Devzira — The Rice That Is A Staple Of East Asian Cuisine
Despite its nutritional benefits for the human body, Devzira rice is perhaps the most suitable variety for oriental dishes, especially plov. Why, you ask? The answer is simple: quality. First of all, they were bred specifically for ploughing, which is why they require special conditions for cultivation. They grow in only one place on the planet: the Fergana Valley (Central Asia).
Devzira Rice and the Fergana Valley (Central Asia)
The Fergana Valley (Central Asia) climate, the soil and the right environmental conditions in this region that determine the taste and quality of the rice itself. The valley is surrounded on all sides by mountains and the soil in which the rice is grown is constantly irrigated by snow melting from the mountains. The fertile, mineral-rich soil, the fresh and cool mountain air and the unique microclimate of the valley create the right conditions for the flavour, aroma and nutritional quality of Devzira rice.
